Dust you were born, and to dust you will return.

Nothing is special. Not even all the delicious vegi-gyoza i stuff my face with. WHY ARE YOU MAKING THIS SO HARD.

Certainly my month stay prior to our "anniversary" will influence my playlist of activities so none of this is for sure. More like guidelines than itinerary but whatever, here it is. Also the final installment of the Self-Reflection series will be 1-2 before my departure so depending on my to do list there may be more posts in between now and then. Japan '09 Predeparture Self-Reflection Part 1

As most of you probably already know, Rachael and I have planned a trip to Japan for our 1 year anniversary. I know what you're thinking, "Oh, big yip, one year? Wanna fight about it and anyone could do that". Well that's where I disagree. Dedication and constant nurturing have gotten me here, not a weekly backseat grope fest which I used to think dating was. So is it worth it? Am I richer from the experience? I think so. Dating Rachael certainly has its limitations (i.e. taking the porn out of the spokes on my bike because that is "objectifying women"), but I think I've grown more in the first half of '09 than I have since I turned 16. Now not only do i deal with the cheap thrills that a 30 pack of Keystone Light can bring a youngster such as myself but i can enjoy the intimacy i have longed for ever since i manifested in the gutter of a Newport Beach neighborhood circa July 23rd, 1989. I'll post here again soon with a recap of Spring '09 semester as CSU Chico and the tentative "final" draft itinerary for the Japan trip.

Rachael Causes Problems Birthday Edition

This weekend Rachael and I celebrated her "birthday". Never mind the birth of Jesus or all hallows eve, this is the most important day of the year. "What did you get her?", the reader ponders. My response:" It doesn't matter. Simply nothing will please her". I woke up on Friday ready for a weekend full of words that begin with "dis" and ridiculousness. My first attempt at a gift was a limited vegan Hello Kitty tote bag signed by morrissey. Upon receiving she would only comment on how "gaudy" and "childish" it was. I figured it could've been worse so I proceeded with the day like it was any other. For dinner we were a bit rushed so I thought maybe a quick burrito would be fine. Bad idea. I was scolded for assuming that all vegans like lettuce and learned a lesson I will not forget. Anyways all weekend I showered her in gifts and nothing pleased her. Come Sunday night, we're both tired so we decide to watch a movie. My belief is that she is a little drowsy so I can be safe from any conflict from now until tomorrow morning. I put on "Ken Park" and instantly feel the heat. I couldn't understand much of what she was yelling because the sleepiness and rage sort of coalesced into a side of her I have never seen until this point. I am a Larry Clark and Harmony Korine fan. Kids had to be one of the best movies of the 90's era. Apparently Rachael is a purist and only likes the Harmony Korine side of this cinema breakthrough. From what i made out of the slurred and high frequency noises was how someone was only successful because someone knew how to write and Korine had zero involvement in the production of "Ken Park" aside from doing the screenplay. Whatever. We ended up watching "The Lion King .5". Similar to how "Lion King 1.5" offers insight into the events leading up to "Lion King 2" and alternate views to the first "Lion King", it shows the conception of and birth as well as sonograms and pictures of Simba in womb. Nat Geo has some fucked up movies.

Starting to Sound Repetitve...

But when inappropriate behaviors go unpunished they don't go anywhere. In fact they stay just the way they were. To my understanding couples get to a certain "crossroad" where they have to make a choice. Keep in mind that i have had a stressful week (lost a wii-mote) and have a tendency to avoid confrontations with Rachael because she can be quite nasty when on the offensive. Anyways, when i broke the news to her that we weren't living together it sparked a flame of hostility that may never be extinguished. To make matters worse, she has also recently acquired two fun loving rabbits. Both are Netherland Dwarfs and opposite sex. Rachael thinks spaying/neutering is "unethical" so this is more like a bunny vending machine. And of course this all factors in to where i live in the Fall. Craigslist searches for "must accommodate dozens of cute little bunnies" may very well be futile, but i continue to search to please her. Through these events it has become clear to me that MODERN LIFE IS WAR.

Weekend Get(away)

So I am little stressed with life right now. Rachael proposed we spend the weekend in portland. Neither of us have been there and new places to travel equals new places for Rachael to cause problems. I don't know what i was thinking, but reluctantly i agreed that we could use the  "vacay" time. I'm writing this from the Carl's Jr. across from gate 26 in the Sacramento International Airport watching Rachael document all the ways you can eat meat. Oddly enough there are 26. I decided not to argue with her because this would just make the scene escalate into a disruption of drunk teenager that doesn't drink that often but when they get their hands on alcohol they get super drunk proportions. One thing we both could agree on is that there is more than one way to eat meat.

She's Out of Town...

Well Rachael is out of town. Something about going spear fishing in the Bahamas. I'm not really sure because I wasn't paying attention. I tried watching Happy Feet with her before she departed and explained how this wasn't something a vegan lifestyle would include. But sure enough she got her way and is probably on a WaveRunner right now giving the finger to some authority figure. You think someone almost 3000 miles would have little impact on my life, but i am living proof that this is not the case. Rather than explain the ridiculousness of this debacle, I've decided that The Fray- "Cable Car" will suffice. And to make matters worse, A Day To Remember covers this on the new second installment of the Punk Goes Pop compilation. Oh, and did I mention Rachael causes problems?

I never knew
I never knew that everything was falling through
That everyone I knew was waiting on a queue
To turn and run when all I needed was the truth
But that's how it's got to be
It's coming down to nothing more than apathy
I'd rather run the other way than stay and see
The smoke and who's still standing when it clears

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind

Let's rearrange
I wish you were a stranger I could disengage
Just say that we agree and then never change
Soften a bit until we all just get along
But that's disregard
Find another friend and you discard
As you lose the argument in a cable car
Hanging above as the canyon comes between

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind

And suddenly I become a part of your past
I'm becoming the part that don't last
I'm losing you and its effortless
Without a sound we lose sight of the ground
In the throw around
Never thought that you wanted to bring it down
I won't let it go down till we torch it ourselves

And everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind

Everyone knows
She's on your mind
Everyone knows I'm in over my head
I'm in over my head
I'm in over...

Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
She's on your mind
